The clouds are almost black, flashes of lightning rip through the dark sky, and rain pounds the engines. They can also use the space of the whole apartment. This way the flow can be organized in a way that some actions result in transitioning between rooms, opening doors etc. Big advantage of such games comes from the fact that the riddles might require coming back to the rooms that were previously visited. A very important part of most of the Exit Games is the plot.
Before playing the game a group of players is usually briefed into the storyline this might happen as a result of reading a letter at the beginning of the game, watching video on a screen etc. Exit Games usually have websites, where players can read the story of the game before they arrive at the place where the actual game take place.
This is definitely one of the best Exit games to start with. This game is solid, the puzzles are nice and interesting but not too hard, and the story is pretty fun. Exit: The Mysterious Museum is another good one, especially for beginners. There are some novelties in here that make you excited when you get them.
Exit: The Sinister Mansion is a good Exit game. If it were released later, we think it would be much less popular it would still be decent, but certainly not the best. The Abandoned Cabin is also often recommended as the best Exit game to start with, but we disagree with this. In our opinion, the Abandoned Cabin has very little story, and quite a few of its puzzles are meh some are even a bit tedious. We still really liked playing it at the time, but we do think that the newer Exit games got much better still.
