Windows initialize disk device not ready
The file explorer opened but stood frozen for a couple of minutes in "not responding" condition. I then unplugged it. Now It shows in the device manager but doesn't show in file explorer. I tried reinstalling drivers but it doesn't help. I checked the Disk Management utility as described in the post here. It shows it as Disk 2 with the red-downwards arrow. When tried to initialize it with GPT partitioning, it says " The device is not ready ".
Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. After that I kept it plugged in for about half an hour. Thanks for your feedback. Thank you, DaveM!
I'll give it a try. So, for the moment, I'm using FAT If need be, I'll remove the drives and format them in NTFS using the connecting cables and power unit which I've done many times with many disks and see if it will work with that formatting. It's working now, sort of. Thank you, again, and I will try it if there are any problems. In any case, I'll keep the procedure handy for when I need it, either very soon or later.
If the error disappears, that means the previous USB port is damaged. If it occurs again, see Step 3. Step 3. Plug the device out and plug it into a different computer. If the error disappears, it implies that the device is damaged and the problem is caused by a damaged USB port. If the device driver is not installed, corrupted or missing, you will receive the warning message as well. Try to re-install the device driver. Type device manager in the search box, right-click it and select Open. Find out the device that is not ready, right-click the device and select Uninstall.
Keep your device connected and restart the PC. Windows will attempt to re-install the driver. Right click the drive that with file system error or bad sectors and select Properties. Click the Tools tab and Check option under the Error checking section. It will check the file system errors.
Click Scan and repair drive and then restart your computer to make the changes available. Type cmd in the search box, right click it and select Run as administrator. Replace G: with the correct drive letter in your case. If you think the system file is corrupted or damaged, you can try SFC Scannow command.
It will fix the error its find. If your disk is failed or the storage controller on your main board is corrupted, you will receive the following error.
To fix it, you can try to run the troubleshooter to fix hardware issues or directly uninstall the storage controller. Type Troubleshooter or Troubleshooting in the search box and select it from the list. Under the Hardware and Sound link, click Configure a device. Click Advanced and tick Apply repair automatically in the new window. Step 4.
